BOWLING GREEN

BOWLING GREEN
The Everly Brothers have had a total of 26 Billboard Top 40 singles and 35 Billboard Top
100 singles. They still hold the record for the most Top 100 singles by any duo, and trail
only Hall and Oates for the most Top 40 singles by a duo. In 1986, the Everly’s were
among the first 10 artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. During the
induction ceremony, they were introduced by Neil Young, who observed that every
musical group he ever belonged to had tried and failed to copy the Everly Brothers’
harmonies. “Bowling Green” was a hit in 1959 for them and later covered by several
artists including Glen Campbell and Porter Wagoner.
Way down in Bowling Green
Prettiest girls I’ve ever seen
A man in Kentucky
Sure is lucky
To live down in Bowling Green
Bowling Green folks treat you kind
They let you think your own mind
A man in Kentucky
Sure is lucky
In Bowling Green you walk your own line
Kentucky sunshine makes the heart unfold
It warms the body
And I know it touches the soul
Bluegrass is fine
Kentucky owns my mind
The fields down in Bowling Green
Have the softest grass i’ve ever seen
A man in Kentucky
Sure is lucky
To lie down in Bowling Green
Bowling Green girls treat you right
They wear dresses cut country tight
A man in Kentucky
Sure is lucky
If he’s seen the Bowling Green light
Kentucky sunshine makes the heart unfold
It warms the body
And I know it touches the soul
Bluegrass is fine
Kentucky owns my mind
Bowling Green Bowling Green
Bowling Green Bowling Green
Bowling Green Bowling Green
Bowling Green Bowling Green
